Page 6: The café at Three Mills appears to be open only when the mill itself is open, namely Sunday afternoons during the summer.

Page 6: last line of the directions. The note on page 21 is superfluous as the steps up to The Greenway are now open.

Page 8: first paragraph, last three lines. The junction has been redesigned. You now pass to the right of the interesting metal sculpture and straight across the road going left to the stations before continuing up the High Street.

Page 10: line 8 second paragraph. The directions for finding your way away from Hollow Pond no longer apply because the trees have grown so much that one can no longer see the chimneys of Whipps Cross Hospital. It is still difficult to give precise directions because all the paths amongst the trees all look much the same. Better directions from line 6 are-

When you get to the far side of the pond, the best option is to follow the right-hand path at any forks in the path you come to. This should bring you out onto the path on the outer edge of the woods and thence to the broad gravel path marked by a finger post with a yellow (not green) arrow and a GMT waymark.

Page 12: last paragraph. The path that forks left now has a fingerpost to the “Lake” now with a waymark showing the way to go.

Page 13. You will find two more signs to the “Lake” along the way, both waymarked.

Page 14: second paragraph. At the lake, follow the waymarked sign to “Humphrey’s Cafe and Chingford Hatch”. Later, follow the sign to “Whitehall Plain”.

Page 14: last paragraph. The have been changes outside the Hunting Lodge so that you will simply have to keep ahead past the entrance on your right in order to find the gate out of the grounds.

Pages 14 & 15: slight route divergence. Graham Law got in touch to ask about an apparent anomaly in the directions in the middle of the top section of directions on page 14. Having crossed the A1009 and crossed the golf fairway he was at a loss where to go then. This led us to review the route on Google Maps and we discovered that the marked route on the map on page 15 diverges from the route directions for the GMT around Woodford Golf Course. There are no public footpaths in that part of Epping Forest and ordinary paths on OS maps are shown by small black dots which can be (just) seen running from the number 36 below The Lops (in the middle of the map), diagonally upwards through the W and G of Woodford Golf Course. That is the route of the GMT which is clearly seen on Google Maps, including the “path that curves sharply left”. Of interest as well, the rides mentioned in the directions are not public bridleways so are not shown as bridleways on OS maps. And finally, whenever we have walked through Epping Forest, the white topped posts marking a ride are not always easily discerned, which is polite way of saying - often not there.

Page 16: last line and page 17. The “broad footpath” that you climb up is now more like a road. At the top the route has been changed. Look out for the waymarks attached to trees. New directions now read -

Climb up and at the top keep ahead through the gap and turn right to follow the path with trees on your right and the open fairway on your left. After about 100m go right onto bridleway between wooden fences. Keep on as it goes right and for another 400m to come out onto Lippitts Hill.

Page 18: line 3. The trees have grown to such an extent that it is not clear that you have reached a corner of a field. Simply look out for the path forking left that has been cleared of the brambles when we last walked it in August 2022. However, the enclosed path that follows is now completely overgrown and everybody follows the new path left along the edge of the adjacent field.

Page 18: bottom of page. The garages have been demolished and new houses have appeared.

Page 19: After crossing the M25, now turn left and walk by the trees along the left-hand edge of the field until you reach the gap in the hedge (line 4). The swimming Pool has been demolished.

Page 20: There is now a completely new Meridian Marker which is more impressive than the old one.
Page 32: in the third paragraph, there have been alterations to the path leading to Cold Christmas. Line 15 to line 18 now reads – When the track turns right, you keep ahead between high wire fences towards the hedgerow ahead. Go through gap and follow the track with hedgerow on your right and fence on left to the road below at Cold Christmas.

Page 36: line 1. The pelican crossing on the A120 has been removed. We suggest that you walk up to the junction and cross there into Station Road.

Page 38: second paragraph, line 3. The vegetation has grown so much that it is not clear that you have reached a corner of a field. Better directions are now … at track junction turn left …

Page 40: second paragraph, line 7. Do not be misled by the permissive bridleway sign and the lack of a footpath disc. The route is through the gate in the wire fence. The way through the garden has changed slightly, go to right of the new tennis court and keep ahead to find gate out of grounds.
